My Frugal Fall Bucket List

This summer my husband and I didn’t have any big summer vacation plans. Instead we decided to make a list of all the things we wanted to do before summer was over. After all, summer flies by doesn’t it? On a general note, most of the activities were frugal. We thought that writing a list would help us make time for fun activities. It actually ended up working really well for us. We made time to do a lot of fun activities that were fairly inexpensive. A few activities that we checked off our list included: get rush tickets and see a play, attend a fireworks show, go to a baseball game (my husband can get free tickets through work), and a few restaurants we wanted to try. We had a ton of fun.

Now that it’s fall, we decided that we want to make another bucket list to enjoy the season. If you are looking for any ideas of fun fall activities, make sure you check out this awesome list of ideas from Laurie over at Frugal Rules. Today, I thought I’d share my frugal fall bucket list with you. Maybe it will inspire you to think about how you want to enjoy the season. Just a warning, many of the items on our fall bucket list involve baking – maybe this should have been a baking bucket list?  Pumpkin, apples, and lots of spice. I can’t wait! Anyways, here’s out fall bucket list:

1) Take a nice husband and wife picture outside surrounded by autumn colors. I’ve noticed we don’t take a lot of photos – especially nice ones together. Anyone else struggle with this?

 2) Day trip hiking to enjoy the beautiful fall colors

3) Visit an apple orchard

4) Take a road trip to the Black Hills

 5) Apple Pie and Apple sauce..Apple butter?

6) Butternut Squash Soup

7) Invite my family over for a bonfire complete with smores

8) Make pumpkin bread

9) Attend the farmers market (I love going to the farmers market, but for some reason we hardly ever go!)

10) Apple Cider

What fall activities are you hoping to enjoy this fall?

  1. I like your number 1 – I never thought of that! And I will also be going to an apple orchard for sure. Apple picking and pumpkin picking are two of my favorite things to do in the fall.

  2. I love butternut squash soup! I also make an awesome butternut squash risotto in the fall that I love. Our favorite activity we always look forward to is apple and pumpkin picking. You can usually buy apples cheaper from the store; however, if you include them as the cost for an all day family activity on the weekend, it is actually really reasonable.

  3. Pumpkin bread, yumm!

This is a great idea. I had a summer bucket list and was able to accomplish a lot of activities, but haven’t really thought about a fall bucket list. I better go grab some pen and paper!

  4. I like the picture idea a lot! I struggle with getting nice family pictures. I’m going to put that on my fall list, too!
We’re excited to pick apples and bake!

  5. I just got all warm and fuzzy! I’m going back to Detroit in less than a month so I plan on enjoying the fall colors and going to a cider mill. I love hot cider and fresh doughnuts!

  6. #1 – Yes, we struggle with that a lot, mostly because both of us hate taking pictures! We don’t think we’re very photogenic. If I try and take a picture of my boyfriend, he’ll inevitably turn away. But it does sadden me, and it’s something I’d like to work on. I like this bucket list idea. I would like to go hiking and enjoy the farmer’s market, too.

  7. All of these are great ideas, and hubby and I will be doing them as well. We have 3 free fall festivals we plan to go to, always love free events! One is with our church and will be having a big bonfire, other 2 are community events. There’s also an apple orchard with the best apple cider at a reasonable price we always stop by when going home from the lake. Also we just tried homemade pumpkin spice ice cream and it was amazing! Have fun enjoying fall!

  8. We are horrible at taking pictures. There are maybe three that exist where one of us isn’t making a goofy face. Not on purpose, we just have goofy faces I guess.

We’re going hiking and camping (and s’moring) this weekend and I will be stopping in at our favorite apple orchard for some fresh cider. Fall is the best time of the year.

  10. We are planning to do some fall family pics outside this year – the colors are SO gorgeous. Never thought about going to the Black Hills in the fall – what a great idea! I’ll bet it’s lots less busy then.
