Extra Income Challenge November Results

extra income challenge

Last month I decided to join an Extra Income Challenge  hosted by Lance at Money Manifesto. Why would you challenge yourself to make extra money? The answer is actually pretty simple: Earning more money is awesome. Extra income allows you to do things you wouldn’t normally  be able to do. Maybe it’s going out for happy hour or buying a new pair of shoes. Or maybe you could be extra responsible and put that money towards savings or paying off debt : ) In any case, earning extra income is a way to get ahead in life.

My Goal

My goal was to earn $50 in extra income. Not a lot of extra money, I know. Many fellow bloggers make hundreds of dollars in extra income each month. Seriously, I don’t know how they do it all. Sometimes I get a little self conscious about how much extra money I make. I have to remind myself that blogging isn’t a competition. This blog is about recording our journey to paying off debt. It’s about celebrating the victories and learning from our mistakes. This blog is about being part of a community that is striving to live better. Am I right?

Did I reach My Goal?

I met my goal and actually surpassed my goal. I made $165 of extra income during November. I tripled what I was hoping to make!! Here’s how I made the money:

$33- Freelance Writing

I was really hoping to land a new gig or two this month. I emailed with a few potential clients but unfortunately nothing came to fruition. That’s just how things go sometimes. The point is, I tried. I am very thankful for the writing I was able to do this month. I really love being creative and writing so getting a paid gig is really a double bonus for me : ) If you are looking for some content, please feel free to send me an email!

$32 – Selling tweets with Izea

I initially signed up for an account with Izea several months ago after DC from Young Adult Money told me about them. I didn’t really get serious about using them until this month. I finally realized that Izea is a great way to make some money. If you are looking for a really easy way to start making extra money, I highly recommend signing up for an account. I actually sold one tweet for $15! That is my record selling price so far. Most of my tweets fall in the $3 – 5 range.

$100 – sign up bonus for a Capital One 360 account

This was a completely unexpected income earning opportunity for me. I had no idea abou this promotion until I read about on Debt Roundup. I knew I couldn’t refuse. I love it when making extra money is easy. To be completely honest, making extra money is challenging. It requires a lot of time and effort to find the right opportunity. When easy income like this comes around you must seize the opportunity.

Everyday I’m hustlin’

I’m always on the lookout for opportunities to make extra money. It’s fun and I enjoy the challenge. Every extra dollar I make is a dollar closer to debt freedom. This goal motivates me to seize every opportunity that comes my way. Now that we are in December, I will continue to be on the lookout for new income opportunities. However, I will be focusing a lot of my energy on my tax prep business this month. I need to make sure that I have all my ducks in a row before I open up shop this spring.  It’s already been a very busy month!

How much extra money would you like to make in December? Are you planning to side hustle this month?

  1. Congrats. What do you think your “hourly wage” was to make that money? That’s key, after all.

  3. Listen I have made zero from my blog and I started my blog in January 2014 so you are doing great! I have never heard of Izea and I’m gonna check it out. I have a way of words maybe I can make some cash. I’ll let you know how it goes.

  4. Awesome! You never know when more writing opportunities will pop up, either. Keeping your eyes and ears open is key, I’ve found. My fiancé is going to start trying to side hustle with graphic design, so I hope he’s able to bring in a little extra. We’ll see.

  6. Nice job with making more money than you thought! I plan on doing some hustles but maybe ones that take less time to complete (like selling stuff and cleaning my friend’s apt) so I can focus on some bigger goals for next year.

  9. Congrats on your month Liz!!! That was a great idea to open the Capital One account! I tell clients to look for bank deals like that all the time. You may as well get paid to open up an account if you can.

  10. I’d like to do more side hustles this December because I have a long vacation, no work at the office starting next week. I’d probably do freelance writing. Congrats Liz!

  12. Wow! Congratulations!:)

  13. Congrats! Your report comes with perfect timing – I just posted my side income report for November, +$1,500. I’ve found that having a variety of income streams from your blog (or several blogs like I have) works to your advantage. Have you signed up for any affiliate accounts like Personal Capital?

  14. Way to go reaching and exceeding your goal for November, Liz! Hopefully, you were planning on opening a new bank account regardless of the $100 – I know perks are good but I’m a big believer in making a decision and then finding perks to help you reach a decision, not the other way around (doing something because of a perk). And good luck this month! I look forward to reading your updates.

  15. Congrats! What I love about your approach here is that it’s both realistic and likely to grow over time. My best advice to bloggers (if I’m even qualified to give advice haha…I still feel “new” or “amateur” myself) is to stick with it. Opportunities and advertising will come your way over time. It’s a lot of ups and downs for me as far as straight blog income is concerned. Thanks for referencing me with Izea. I actually am having a lot of trouble getting sponsored tweets these days. Do you bid on them or do you get offers sent your way? Also I NEED to do this in December: $100 – sign up bonus for a Capital One 360 account. Thanks for sharing. If you become an affiliate of them let me know and I will use your link. I also have some credit card hacking plans for the next 6-12 months that I’m excited about.

    • Hi DC- Unfortunately I think that sign-up bonus is over now. I think it was a black Friday four-day special promotion. I bid on offers at Izea. Some weeks are great and other weeks I won’t get a single tweet.

  16. You beat your goal: woohoo!! Way to go. 🙂 I’m hoping to hit at least the $500 mark this month, at least.

  17. Ouch I can’t really complain about the sign-up bonus ending. I have told tons of people about the Barclaycard (in real life) and they didn’t get it yet. Some I told a YEAR ago and they still haven’t moved on it. It’s hard to believe Barclaycard still has their $400 promotion, but anyway I will have to keep my eye out for some of the other signup bonuses out there.

Good to hear that bidding has worked for you. For a while I thought I was wasting my time and honestly haven’t bid on anything in months. I’ll have to get back to it 😉
